Hi, I’m Dr. Biscoe.
Even though I’m now well into adulthood, I still remember some of what being a teenager is like. I remember thinking about what I believe in and stand for, what parts of my family’s ways I accepted, what parts didn’t fit who I was, and what I could do about that.
I remember how restricted some of my choices felt at the time because I was still a minor. I remember how important my friends were. Also, how important it was for me to have a trusted adult who was not one of my parents, who I could talk to about how I was becoming the person I am- and discuss concerns I had along the way on my path.
When I left my home in California after high school to attend Brown University, questions of identity, belonging, doubts/faith in myself, who I wanted to be continued to unfold along with the new responsibilities of adulting while furthering my academic career.
As a Women’s Studies major, I acquired an appreciation for the diversity of experience that we all have, however it is that we may identify. After college I attended medical school at UCLA, where I imagined a career supporting adolescents and young adults in some way, because the support I received had been so critical for me.
I completed psychiatry residency and fellowship training in child and adolescent psychiatry at University of Arizona, where I also trained in the Integrative Psychiatry curriculum from the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. This curriculum provided me with expertise for how to approach adolescents and adults who are experiencing challenges with their emotions, behaviors, or ways of thinking from a culturally humble, evidence-informed perspective.
One of the things I most enjoy about being an integrative psychiatrist is meeting people where they are and helping to put them at ease, so that together we can look at concerns that are important to them and create a plan that helps them reach their therapeutic goals.
